P31, the new office of eEngine

Current spring, precisely 21st of April, we are relocating to the new office, to the P31. It is located in the center of Aleksandrów Łódzki, in sewing room from beginnings of 20th century. In first half year we plan to cover 300 m2 of the building area, that mostly we want to allocate to increase the number of our team members.

Moving forward (2018, 2019 year) we plan to adapt the building to organize the the space for gastronomic and cooperational purpose. Our goal is to create extraordinary place in Aleksandrów Łódzki, that is friendly for the business and startups.

We are visualizing P31 as a place between modernity and industrial style. In our vision, new office is going to inspire and stand out from other similar buildings. In historic walls of old sewing room we want to introduce the spirit of usable technology and gamification.

New office is going to form key support for the growth of whole eEngine. Our main focus in on ergonomy and elasticity of creating project teams. We want to organize the office to maximize the mobility and diversification of people, competences and ideas.

One of the most important goal for us in terms of new office, is to design and arrange it so pragmatism and creativity will go together hand in hand.

We all are creating eEngine

We are proud of that we build eEngine on foundations made of friendship and partnership relations. In our company “culture eats strategy for breakfast”. It means that the way we are heading as organization is not dictated by economical factors, but most of all, values in terms of which we are functioning.

Relocation to P31 will create for the organization new potential to organize themed events, in which we want to share between us the knowledge and skills. It concern so-called “eEngine Heroes Meetings”, that nowadays are only internal trainings, which in the future we imagine as open-access events.

Important part of eEngine vision in 2017 is treating the subject of content marketing very seriously, and also increasing the interest of looking for us in the organic Google search. That is why at the end of 2016 we launched the new edition of our website and we started to work on our company's vlogs. This and other marketing activities are going to strengthen awareness and power of the eEngine brand in 2017.

The beginning of the year is also a change of way of working for developers and leading the projects for project managers. We are testing various solutions and methodologies. To develop this goal we are using Trello and GitHub, to finally create possibly the best workflow before the end of the year.

We wants to enrich everyday routine, that is why we plan to implement elements of gamification to our work. It concerns especially one of the most important for us issue - reporting work time by programmers.

Our eEngine business model lived to see the day of huge changes. Since the beginning of our activity we were involved with e-Commerce industry and through last years we offered our own software for online shops in SaaS model (Software as a Service). Since 2017 we are realizing only additional dedicated implementation based on open source software - Magento.

The change of strategy also involves plan of creating new product. We are working on it since the end of 2016. We have scheduled Beta tests for March 2017, and in the Autumn we want to realize firsts implementations. Our solution assumes very last page loading for the online clients, and also allows for adoption of any high traffic. More information about this product will be introduced through whole 2017.

eCommerce

By the end of the year we plan to organize whole team dedicated to this particular product. They would have to deal with the whole development and promotion of our solution. This organizational unit would consist of 3-5 people, which would be in 100% responsible for realizing plans assigned to this project.

Beside e-Commerce we will work even stronger in area of web applications. In this case we are building a team of Ruby on Rails developers, which will realize projects for our corporate clients.

Optymalizacje IT

Both in the case of e-Commerce and web applications, we want to raise even more the quality of our services. Therefore, we will build business relationships with those clients, who primarily appreciate the trust and long-term cooperation. Partnership approach and awareness of the process of software development will also play an important role this year.

Heroes of eEngine

One of the most important challenge for eEngine in 2017 is increasing the number of our team to 35 people. We matured enough to face the fact that in our ranks we need people responsible for the sale. They are as important as project managers, taking care of customers' products, and development teams developing these products.

Accordingly to this for the next 365 days we will work hard in the field of employer branding (vlogs and publications in the portals of the HR industry). We are not convinced to the beaten ways of recruitment and to the support of third party in this process. Our main goal is to create such a company image that attracts to us the most valuable candidates.

During the recruitment of new team members we still want to be guided by the principles from Dev Knight’s Handbook:

  • Would we want this man to be our boss?
  • What can he teach me?
  • What happens if we do not hire this man?

During completion of the team we pay attention primarily on interpersonal skills, and secondly on the hard competences.

In 2017 the profile of our ideal candidate assumes that:

We want people that are motivated not only by financial reasons, but also by the sense of identity and a possibility to have a real impact on the surrounding reality. We want to remain a company whose overriding principles are the ability to express their own opinion and to listen to the opinion of others.

We are still trying to increase the comfort of work for our people. In 2016 we introduced in eEngine sport cards, that are encouraging team for an active recreation. Since the beginning of 2017 we have new vacation policy, that allows for paid holidays regardless of the form of employment. In the second half of the year we will progressively introduce a policy of external training, that are enhancing knowledge and skills in programming and project management.

The best is yet to come

The above-described vision is just the first step, which we set ourselves for the coming years. With all the forces we will try to strive to achieve these goals and objectives, while bearing in mind the changing world of business. We value in ourselves that we can be flexible, but also consistent in pursuit of the goal.

Today, ie. At the beginning of 2017, we are strong as ever. This thought gives us faith in that the vision that will create for 2018 will be a continuation of the present one, but at the same time, its foundation will be even more spectacular. Let's get together to make it happen!
